The Diploma Programme (DP) is our principal academic programme here at Impington International College, a course which aims to develop in students an excellent breadth and depth of knowledge. The DP allows you to tailor your programme to your own strengths and interests and offers great flexibility while ensuring you keep up vital skills such as Languages and Mathematics.
More than just the learning of content, the DP develops academic independence and pushes students to develop the intellectual skills that enable you to stand out in applications for further study and employment.
The curriculum
The DP curriculum is made up of six subject groups, including: Studies in Language and Literature, Language Acquisition, Individuals and Societies, Sciences, Mathematics and the Arts. The challenging and rewarding programme offers you a global perspective by cultivating international mindedness and developing key skills needed to succeed in further studies such as research, inquiry, independent study and critical analysis. The DP prepares you for a successful transition to higher education and the fact that all DP students will study a foreign language, a science and mathematics to the age of 18, places you at a huge advantage.
During your time at Impington International College, you will choose three subjects at higher level and three at standard level.
The core
The DP core, which comprises theory of knowledge, creativity, activity, service (CAS) and the extended essay, is designed to bring together the different elements of the programme, and provides you with an opportunity to develop skills such as independence and inquiry. Through the core, you will reflect on the nature of knowledge, complete independent research and undertake a project that involves community service.
Entry requirements
We require at least seven GCSEs with an average of Grade 5, including English Language and Mathematics. For subjects you wish to take at higher level you will need at least a Grade 6. Click here for some FAQs.
IBDP Subject Options for 2021
The CP is a framework of international education that incorporates the values of the IB into a unique programme engaging students both in academic and career-related education, leading to higher education, apprenticeships or employment. The CP remains the only education offering that expertly blends academic and career-related teaching.
As part of the CP, you will study one BTEC subject (the career-related study) and undertake a minimum of two other subjects from the DP curriculum alongside the CP core, which consists of four components. For CP students, DP courses provide the theoretical underpinning and academic rigour of the programme and the career-related study further supports the programme’s academic strength and provides practical, real-world approaches to learning.
The core
The CP core helps you develop knowledge, skills and attitudes required for lifelong learning. You will study courses in personal and professional skills and language development, complete the reflective project, and participate in service learning.
Entry requirements
We require at least five subjects at GCSE Grade 4 or higher, ideally including Mathematics and English Language and preferably with a Grade 5 in your area of specialism. Evidence of a strong interest in the vocational BTEC subject will need to be shown at the guidance meeting.

Extended BTECs are vocational and work-related courses, designed to accommodate the needs of employers and allow students to progress to higher education, higher level apprenticeships or the world of work. An Extended BTEC takes a practical approach to learning, without missing any of the important theory on the subject.
You will be able to complete a BTEC either as part of the CP, or as a standalone extended BTEC. We offer the following BTEC options:
We work with a number of companies and institutions throughout all of our BTEC courses, including Cambridge TV, University of Bedfordshire, Trinity Laban and Rob Roy Boat Club. Each BTEC has differing needs and the involvement with outside agencies looks at practical experience and developing professional relationships within each vocational area. These connections also allow you to foster an understanding of the different roles in each industry, and how careers progression works within them. We then work with the companies to help the you decide on progression routes after sixth form study.
Entry requirements
We require an average of a Grade 4 across your GCSEs, ideally including Mathematics and English Language.
We offer a number of Scholarship Programmes that run alongside our academic curriculum. View them here.
