- Marlene Burggraf, Year 12 student
Why did you choose to study at Impington International College (IIC)?
I chose to study at the College because I wanted to keep my options open. I would like to potentially further my education in Germany once I have completed my studies at IIC.
Where did you study before IIC?
I went to Impington Village College.
How was the transition to ICC?
I found the transition to IIC extremely easy because I had been at the College for five years, therefore, I knew the teachers and my way around.
What programme are you studying and why?
I am studying the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme (DP) because I liked the idea of not having to narrow what I wanted to study; studying six subjects has allowed me to have a broader outlook on what I would like to do in the future. Furthermore, the DP is widely accepted abroad.
What subjects are you studying and why?
I am studying English and Mathematics at a Standard level and History, Sports Science, Psychology and German at a Higher level. I have chosen to do these subjects at Higher Level because I thoroughly enjoyed the content and lessons at GCSE.
What is your favourite subject and why?
My favourite subject is probably Sports Science because I like my teachers and I am extremely interested in the content we learn in class.
Tell us about your typical day.
On a typical day, I am usually in College at around 8:00am for a period zero lesson and have around three to four lessons, which means that I normally have a few free periods throughout the day. On Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays I also have football training which starts at lunchtime and finishes around the end of period five.
What extra-curricular activities do you do?
Alongside the DP, I also take part in the Norwich City Football Club scholarship programme.
What is your favourite extra-curricular activity and why?
My favourite extra-curricular activity is the football scholarship because it has allowed me to not only participate in a sport I thoroughly enjoy but it has also enabled me to develop my skills.
Tell us about any sports matches you have been involved in.
So far, I have been able to take part in lots of football matches and I have enjoyed the experience very much; being part of the scholarship has given me the opportunity to further build friendships.
Why would you recommend IIC to prospective students?
I would recommend IIC to prospective students because both the students and staff are extremely welcoming and motivating. The social and academic aspect is very important to everyone which enables us to further our education and relations with other students.
If you could sum up your IIC experience in three words, what would they be?
Welcoming, open-minded and caring community.
